Glasgow's George Square


One of Glasgow's most well-known areas is George Square in Glasgow's City Centre. It was named after King George III and was constructed in 1781. It is home to a fair number of statues, including statues dedicated to Robert Burns, Sir Robert Peel and James Watt. Glasgow's George Square is often used for large events, One such event happens every Christmas season, where a countdown begins to the Christmas and lights going all the way up one of the statues are turned on when the countdown ends. Many people attend to enjoy the fireworks and the lights. You can see this in the video below from 2011:
